Mynette May Chapman, 84, of Albany, GA, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, December, 13, 2016. Home Going Services will be conducted Friday, December 16, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Albany (145 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg, GA 31763). Dr. William E. (Butch) Knight will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:30pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester, GA. Pallbearers will include her three grandsons and family friends.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Cecil Melvin Chapman, Albany, GA, two daughters, Carla Chapman Pless, and her husband, Thomas, Greensboro, NC, and Joan Chapman Kelley and her husband, Carlton, Rocky Mount, NC, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Sara) May, her sister, Athalene May Florence, Georgetown, KY, a sister, Dorothy May Hudson, Frankfort, KY, and Ralph May, Georgetown, KY.
She graduated from high school in Worth County, where she played basketball. She was also voted most talented, most talkative, best dressed and best dancer in her class. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Georgia Teacher's College in Statesboro in 1953. She was the president of the Senior House Council and a member of the Philharmonic Choir. She married Melvin Chapman, also of Worth County, in 1954.
She spent her life serving her Lord Jesus Christ and helping raise her daughters in a loving Christian home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany, since 1971, where she sang in the choir, played the piano for Sunday school and other church functions, led children's choirs and played hand-bells. She participated in many local missions projects, alongside her husband. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for her family, home and others.
She worked several years in the Albany YMCA Membership office and played piano in the local Alzheimer Outreach Facility on N. Jefferson in Albany. She was a loving person who made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. She will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends Friday, from 10:00AM until the Home Going Service at the First Baptist Church of Albany.
