Minor Stanfield Jones IV, 77, of Albany, Georgia, passed away January 28, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at The Coach House, 1308 Dawson Road, Albany, Georgia.
He was a fourth generation Floridian, born in Winter Haven, Florida to the late Minor S. Jones III and Arlene Summerlin Jones. He grew up on the Creek Farm, east of Fort Meade where he attended school. He served in the United States Marines and began his career in construction in Bartow, Florida where he and his father owned MIV Construction Company. After moving to Albany, Georgia in 1968, he continued his construction work and founded MJ Resources, Inc., an industrial irrigation services company supporting major farm operations in South Georgia. During the 1970âs, he worked in Central and South America for oil and gas, construction and gold mining ventures.
An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Mr. Jones grew up with a deep love and appreciation for cattle, agriculture and natural resources. Above all, he embodied and respected hard work. From the Florida ranch of his childhood to the red hills of South Georgia he called home for most of his life, his love for the land is a lasting legacy by which he will be remembered. He will also be remembered as a loyal friend and confidant.
Survivors include three children, Ashley Jones Sniffen and her husband, Rob, of Tallahassee, Florida, Minor Stanfield Jones V and his wife, Jen, of Orlando, Florida and Blake Summerlin Jones and his wife, Catherine, of Birmingham, Alabama, a sister, Camille Jones Strachan of New Orleans, Louisiana and six grandchildren: Summerlin Sniffen, Jacob Sniffen and John Sniffen all of Tallahassee, Florida, Minor S. Jones, VI and Jackson Jones both of Orlando, Florida and Camille Summerlin Jones of Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Corene Jones Conner and Saradell Jones.
