Mildred E. (Millie) Valis

Mildred E. (Millie) Valis, 89, of Albany, GA, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church. Rev. Sandra E. Conley will officiate. Interment will follow at a later date in Andersonville National Cemetery.

 

Born in Somerville, NJ, Mrs. Valis had resided in Albany, GA for the past forty five years. A very caring and giving lady, very active in the community, she was the secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus, the President of Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #30, and President of District #2. Mrs. Valis enjoyed making teddy bears for the children at Phoebe Putney Hospital. She was previously active in the Boy Scouts of America, her three sons obtaining Eagle Scout status. She loved playing golf and had a hole-in-one at Doublegate Country Club. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, John Hart Van Lieu and Edith Danberry Van Lieu, brothers, Robert Van Lieu, Charles Edgar Van Lieu, Jack Van Lieu, sisters, Doris Keimig and Carolyn Cooper.

 

Mrs. Valis was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Mr. Valis were married for sixty-four years and would have celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 21, 2018.

 

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence H (Larry) Valis, Albany, GA, three sons, Glenn Valis (Georgeanne), Flagtown, NJ, Scott Valis (Lisa), Blackshear, GA, David Valis (Cherie), Leesburg, GA, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was very close to all her family with eighteen nieces, thirteen nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials in memory of Mildred E. Valis to the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, 3209 Gillionville Rd, Albany, GA 31707, or to the American Legion Post #30, 2916 Gillionville Rd, Albany, GA 31721.

 

The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at Christ United Methodist Church.
