Michael Paul Herrin, Sr.

Michael “Mike” Paul Herrin, Sr., of Albany, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the age of 77 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery. Rev. Charles Jones will officiate. 

Born on June 3, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Bernard Dewitt and Annie Lee Smith Herrin. Mike graduated from Norcross High School in 1965, embarking on a journey that would see him serve in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years, during which he became a Master Sergeant (MSgt) while serving in the Vietnam War. His military service laid a foundation of discipline that would carry through to his subsequent career at the Marine Corps Base in Albany, where he worked in supplies and logistics for 28 years. Known for his unwavering work ethic, he seldom took vacations, dedicating himself to ensuring the success of his duties.

Beyond his professional commitments, Mike enjoyed a few hobbies that enriched his life. He found joy in umpiring softball games and was an active member of the Umpire Association for Softball until 2003.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Herron, his siblings: Tommy Herrin, Cecil Herrin, Geneva Smith, Mildred Smallwood, and Mary Autry. 

He is survived by his beloved children, Michael P. (Emily) Herrin, Jr. of Clermont, GA, and Tamara (Michael) Montoya of Savannah, GA., his grandchildren, Michael P. Herrin, III (Jennifer), and Michael Alexander Montoya and Christopher Michael Montoya, as well as his great-grandchild, Magnolia Bliss Herrin.

A visitation will be held on February 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home.
