Melba Jean Headley Hunter, 81, of Dawson, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at her home.
Visitation will be Monday, July 15, from 2:00-3:00 at Mathews Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be 3:00, Monday, at Mathews Funeral Home with interment to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson. Rev. Mark Lane will officiate.
Born in the Benevolence Community in Randolph County to James and Vivian Etherton Headley, Mrs. Hunter had lived in Dawson for the past 60 years. She had worked with various businesses in Dawson and retired from Skinner Furniture. Mrs. Hunter's hobbies included fishing and crocheting. She also loved to make and decorate cakes for family and friends. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Dawson First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell Hunter, son David Hunter, grandson, Steven Marshall and her sister, Arlyne Pines.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna H. Osborne and Stacey H. Scott (Ben), son, Rusty Hunter (Angel); grandchildren, Lee Marshall (Jennifer), Christopher Hunter (Alexis), Brandon Hunter (Kaitlin), and Canyon Scott; great grandchildren, Christian Hunter, Maddox Hunter, Amelia Hunter, Barrett Hunter and a great-grandson due in December; a sister, Louise Lane; her beloved pet Jazmin; and a host of other relatives.
