Mearl Roger McCreary, 82, born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died October 26, 2011 at his residence in Albany, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors. He will be interred with his wife, Melba McCreary who preceded him in death in 2008.
Mr. McCreary was a Korean War veteran who served in both the US Air Force and the US Army and spent many years in civil service at various military facilities. In retirement he enjoyed raising roses and learning about the US Civil War and trains of all kind. He was affiliated with The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elk, The Loyal Order of the Moose and The Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a step-son and his wife, Ken and Wanda Lessard of Albany, GA, a step-daughter and her husband, Anita and David Lengel and their daughter, Christine Lengel all of Stockbridge, GA, two daughters and their husbands, Phyllis E. and Dan Toebes of Elgin, IL and Bonny and Ken Smajda of Elkridge, MD, three granddaughters, Erin Bower and her husband, Jarrod on New Knoxville, OH, Lydia Markham and her husband, Joshua of Lake-In-The-Hills, IL and Jessica Toebes of Las Vegas, NV, three great-grandchildren, Faith, Cole and Oliver Bower and a sister, Jean Davies of San Diego, CA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, United Hospice of Cordele, 708 E. 16th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015.
