Mavis Jarvis Ross Biven, 96, of Albany, GA died May 9, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Hilton Gillespie and Rev. David Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA.
Mrs. Biven was born on July 20, 1922 in Early County, GA to Joseph and Clyde Jarvis. She grew up in Donalsonville, GA and moved to Albany, GA several years ago after retiring. Mrs. Biven was employed with Holly Furniture Company in Donalsonville, GA. Mrs. Biven was a member of The Albany Grace Church of The Nazarene and was honored for being the oldest living member and received The Distinguished Service Award for her faithful service and dedication to the Church of the Nazarene and their young people. To meet her was to love her and she made an impression on everyone she met. She loved to cook and enjoyed watching people indulge in her cooking. Her greatest love was her family and her church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Lester Ross, Sr. and William Russell Biven, her children, Walter Lester “Bubba” Ross, Jr. and Emma Jean Ross Long, a sister Lois Jarvis North, and her brothers, C. W. Jarvis and Travis Jarvis.
Survivors include, one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Jarvis Kirby of Dothan, AL, three children, Elizabeth “Liz” Ross Marler of Albany, GA, Janie Ross Barnes of Laurel Hill, FL and George Marion Ross of Albany, GA, 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren 24 great-great-grandchildren and her beloved dachshund, “Caddy”.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to The Albany Grace Church of The Nazarene, 3000 Gillionville Rd., Albany, GA, 31721.
