Maurene Lelia Avera was born the second child of four to Noel Mack Avera, a farmer and his wife, Nina Stamps Avera in Calhoun County on August 29, 1933. As a young lady, she was introduced to a handsome young man named Harvey McDonald by his uncle. Harvey was visiting home before signing once again into the Army. They married in 1950 and soon welcomed their first son, Robert Michael McDonald (Mike). Eighteen months later another son arrived, Richard Allen McDonald (Rick).
Maurene adjusted to being a military wife with four different base mones and Harvey’s deployment to Vietnam. Their favorite move was to the Territories of Hawaii, where many fun memories were made, especially for the boys.
Harvey soon retired after returning from Vietnam. They settled in Monroe, LA for a number of years before coming home to Georgia. They resided in Randolph County and later Blakely. After Harvey’s death, Maurene moved to Albany to be closer to family.
Maurene was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister and a very special Mema. She had a gentle, kind spirit topped with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maurene was preceded in death by siblings Caroline Rice, Bo Avera and a grandson, Joshua S. McDonald.
