Mary Joe Cawley McGee passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018. A memorial service will be held at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 12 at 10 o’clock in the morning, followed by a reception in the parlor. Her remains have been cremated.

Widow of the late Dr. Jeff D. McGee, Jr., she was born on April 10, 1932 in Springfield, Georgia, the daughter of the late L.V. and Alma Lee Day Cawley. The family moved to Quitman, Georgia where she grew up. She later attended Wesleyan College in Macon on scholarship and graduated in 1953. She wed Dr. Jeff D. McGee on June 12, 1954. They moved to Albany where she helped him run his dental practice and raised their four children.

Mrs. McGee is survived by her children, Dr. Robert J. McGee of Albany, Georgia and his wife Connie Meier McGee; Mary Day McGee of Apalachicola, Florida; Martha Joe McGee of Houston, Texas; William Davis McGee of Seattle, Washington and his husband Lee Heck; granddaughter Jaime McGee Coley and husband Will Coley of Savannah, Georgia and their children Louisa, Willa James and Witt Coley; grandson Davis Jefferson McGee of Apalachicola, Florida; and step-grandsons Jay White and Joshua White of Leesburg, Georgia. Also surviving is her sister Katie Lee Cawley Ashmore of Greenville, South Carolina: sister-in-law Willene McGee Castleberry of Forsyth, Georgia; sister-in-law Anne McGee Morganstern of Columbus, Ohio and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Cawley Chandler of Evergreen, Colorado.

Mrs. McGee lived her life in tireless service to her Lord, family and community. She was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a teacher of the adult Sunday School class, Church Council, Board of Trustees and the Jones History and Resource Library. She was also a member of the Junior League and the Charity League of Albany, where she served both as president and volunteered in many capacities for countless philanthropies. She was also a board member of the Albany Symphony Association and Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, as well as a Trustee of the Dougherty County Public Library.

The family would be most honored by your service to any of the above organizations in her memory and spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America at www.Alzfnd.org or the library at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Albany.
