Mary Jean Remington Oaks, 82, of Albany passed away at Willson Hospice House on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. A native of Akron, Colorado, Jean was born on 06/12/1935 to the late Mary Kincheloe and Fred Remington. She graduated from the University of Colorado in Greeley where she met and married a marine, so she lived in California, Hawaii, and Virginia before settling in Albany, Georgia in 1972, where she was a Librarian and Media Specialist for the Dougherty County School system for over 30 years. Friends will remember her as a fiercely competitive card player, playing in many Bridge tournaments throughout the years as well as being an active volunteer for many causes in the community. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Oaks, her step mother Thelma Bittinger Remington, her sister, Diane R. Graham Callahan, and her daughter, Denise Oaks-Moffett. She is survived by her sisters: Terry Remington Alexander and her husband Paul, and Karen Remington Shonka and her husband Mike, as well as her brother Kenneth Remington and his wife Sue; her two daughters, Michelle J. Oaks and Viki L. Oaks, and her grandchildren Dalton R. Moffett, Awbrey L. Moffett, and Chayton C. Thompson. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and location. In lieu of flowers, donations to the following organizations would be greatly appreciated: Alzheimers Caregivers’ Time Out at 314 N.
