Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Spilman

Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Spilman, 74, of Albany, GA, died December 16, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson.  Daniel Ellis will officiate.

Libby was born on December 22, 1948 in Dawson, GA to Edward Franklin and Elizabeth Spilman.  She grew up there and graduated from Terrell County High School in 1966 and was Valedictorian of her class.  After graduation, Libby attended Agnes Scott College. She was a High-Priestess with the Fellowship of Isis.

She was present at the music festival, Woodstock, in Bethel, NY and moved to California, where she was active in the protest of the Vietnam War.  Libby traveled the World and was a true artist.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Spilman.

Survivors include her life partner, Nancy Guthrie of Albany, GA, her children, Randi (Craig) Burson of Pensacola, FL, J.B. (Caffey) McCarty and Paul Dever (Katelyn) McCarty Jr. all of Charleston, SC and Lucinda (Stephen Bacon) of Albany, GA, her brother, Franklin (Margaret) Spilman of Dawson, GA and her grandchildren, Steven Burson and A.J. (Ann Gilmartin) Burson all of Pensacola, FL, Mandy Burson of Albany, GA, Jane McCarty, Paul Dever “Tripp” McCarty III, John Thomas McCarty and Willam McCarty all of Charleston, SC, Dylan Scoggins of Rome, GA and Madeline Blanchard of Albany, GA.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Cemetery.
