Martin Lewis Harris, 92, of Albany, GA, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Willson Hospice House. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, September 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chad Ellis will officiate.
Born in Brunswick, GA, Mr. Harris moved to Albany, GA in 1952 moving from Atlanta, GA. He was a combat veteran of World War II serving as a Signalman 1st Class in the Navy aboard the USS Enterprise CV-6. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1979, and was a member of the American Legion Post # 30 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #713. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, Baradel Palmer Harris and Ann Isabelle Bernstein and his wife, Betty Ann Haddock Harris.
Survivors include two sons, Martin Lewis Harris, Jr. (Melinda), Mobile, AL, Jeff D. Harris (Sharon), Albany, GA, a brother, B.P. Harris, St. Simons Island, GA, a sister, Betty Marie Tumlin (Ray), Lee Co., GA, two granddaughters, Dr. Ivy F. Chupp (Jay), Albany, GA and Savanna Raine Harris, Mobile, AL.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials to the American Legion Post # 30, 2916 Gillionville Rd., Albany, GA, 31721.
The family will receive friends following the services at Mathews Funeral Home.
