Marinel was born at home in Leesburg, GA, on February 4, 1935. She lived a full life as a great friend to many with a heart for serving others. She bravely went to college and earned her RN degree at the same time as her son was in college at UGA. She went on to nurse in several positions including head nurse for the Red Cross and nursing director at Palmyra Nursing Home. Once she retired, she continued serving others as a devoted volunteer for Hospice and Meals on Wheels. She also loved playing cards and sharing life with her “sobbing sisterhood.”

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved her family fiercely. She spent countless nights caring for her great grandchildren as infants and created memories and bonds that will never be forgotten. She leaves the legacy of a strong southern lady with deep roots in community, church, family and friends. Her passions included traveling the world, gardening and keeping an immaculate home.

The family would like to recognize and send a special thank you to Harborview Health Systems and Hospice of South Georgia of Jesup, GA for helping Marinel transition to her heavenly home with comfort and dignity.

A visitation is planned Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany, GA followed by a graveside service in Leesburg, GA. Rev. Laurel Griffith will officiate. All friends and relatives are invited.
