Marcus “Terry” Cosper, 71, of Albany, died Tuesday June 5, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Gillionville Baptist Church. Rev. Roy Cook and Mr. Walter Blankenship will officiate.
Terry was born on June 10, 1946 in Moultrie, GA to Sergeant Major Marcus Clayburn and Lillie Vie Cosper. His brother, Tracy, was born when Terry was 17 years old. Terry enlisted in the National Guard Armory when he was 18 years old and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Elaine, in 1967. They were blessed with two children, Brian and Julie. In 1976, Terry moved his family to Albany, GA to pursue a better life for his family. Terry retired with 30 years of service as a Master Sergeant in the Army in 2003. He then retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base after being employed in Family Support for 11 years.
Terry loved his family, his Gillionville Baptist Church family, and his Harley. Along with spending time with his grandchildren, Terry was an active member of GBC’s choir, a deacon for his church, and a prior member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He was a dedicated Christian that truly walked with God daily. He will be remembered dancing in the choir, riding his Harley, and watching his grandson playing football.
Terry leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Barbara Cosper, his children, Brian Cosper and Julie Hatcher, his daughter-in-law, Lisa Cosper, his son-in-law, Geoffrey Hatcher, his grandchildren, Ava and Polly Cosper, and Knox, Eady, and Fletcher Hall, and his brother, Tracy Cosper, and sister-in-law, Susan Cosper.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at Gillionville Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, anyone that would like can make a donation to the children’s ministry at Gillionville Baptist Church.
