Lucius Gordon Worthy, 78, of Leesburg, GA died June 23, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Leesburg. Dr. Todd Sullens and Rev. Bobby Harrell will officiate. Following the funeral, a private interment service will follow in the Leesburg City Cemetery. Deacons and Postal Service Workers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born to the late J.G. and Carolyn Woods Worthy, he grew up and lived in Leesburg, GA most of his life. Mr. Worthy graduated from Lee County High School in 1957 and attended Georgia State College. He was employed with the United Postal Service in Albany for forty two years. Mr. Worthy was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Leesburg, the Jane Studdard Memorial Sunday School Class and he served as a Deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife of forty eight years, Pauline Purcell Worthy of Leesburg, GA, his children, Sarah Worthy of Lee County, GA and Mark Worthy and his wife, Tiffany of Ray City, GA, a sister and her husband, Helen and LaVan Kennedy of Leesburg, GA, his grandchildren, Carolyn Worthy, Lilah Kate Worthy, Melanie Worthy and Jackson Worthy, a sister-in-law and her husband, Eve Purcell and Terry Carter of Waycross, GA and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home.
