Lucas Wingard

December 13, 1985 — April 8, 2025

Lucas Wingard was born into a Marine family at the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, North Carolina on December 13, 1985 (a Friday the 13th he liked to remind people).

His memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 26th at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, the family will receive friends following the service.

Lucas made his home all over the world, accompanying his family to Okinawa, Japan; McClean, VA; Beaufort, SC; Jacksonville, NC (part 2); Newport, RI; Mons, Belgium; and Albany, GA where he graduated from Lee County High School. He attended the University of South Carolina in both Beaufort and Columbia, SC before ultimately graduating from Georgia Southwest in Americas, GA with a BA in Business Administration – though he never gave up on his Gamecocks.

He enjoyed art and music, taking Advanced Placement art in high school and leading the formation of a garage band named War Room in his 20s, where he played bass guitar and acted as lead singer. He also did his dad a solid and sang bass in the Southwest Harmonizers barbershop chorus. Lucas actively supported St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the Back 40 Crew-yard maintenance team and Food for a Thousand garden group. Post COVID he served as the technician supporting live streaming of the services. Lucas enjoyed listening to music by a nice campfire, science fiction movies (cult and mainstream), good barbeque and cracking a dry joke. He loved his adopted cat Tulip, who wandered in after hurricane Michael, and the family dogs.

He took the role of becoming an uncle seriously, always angling to get his nephew the perfect Christmas gift and engaging in serious conversations about Star Wars and Marvel super heroes. He is survived by his parents, Joe (69) and Sandy (69) Wingard of Albany, GA; his older sister, brother-in-law, and nephew Rachel Wingard (41), and Juan (42) and Jack Rodriuez (7.5) of Atlanta, GA; his uncles and aunts, Ricky and Becky Wingard of Lexington, SC; Tim Wingard and Myra Regan of Arlington, VA; Matt and Angela Brusch of Vienna, VA, and Joe and Leigh Peterson of Boca Roton, FL; and nearly too many cousins to name.

Tributes in Lucas’s memory can be made to St Patrick’s Episcopal Church or the Albany Humane Society.
