Lonnie O. Newsome

Lonnie O. Newsome, 91, of Calhoun County, GA, died Monday, August 22, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Private family graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, GA.

Mr. Newsome was born July 24, 1931 to Talmadge and Jessie Watson Newsome in Cordele, GA. He graduated from East Crisp High School and moved to Montezuma, GA in 1953 and was employed with the Norris Cattle Company in Montezuma and also in Leary, GA. He worked for Kaiser Chemical and after his retirement from Kaiser he was the service manager of Bill Heard Chevrolet. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Fort Gaines, GA and loved to fish and hunt. Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his wife Betty June Singletary Newsome.

Survivors include his daughters, Delilah Stegall and her husband Edward of Abbeville, AL, Dencie Etheridge and her husband Wilbur of Leary, GA, Decarlo Wilkerson and her husband Donnie of Edison, GA, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Lonnie O. Newsome to Shiloh Baptist Church, 1974 Cotton Hill Road, Fort Gaines, GA 39851, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
