Lee Norton Johnston, Sr

Lee Norton Johnston, Sr., 89, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Gillionville Baptist Church, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tony Haefs and Rev. Roy Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Coolidge, GA, Mr. Johnston was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army. He was also the owner and operator of The Arctic Bear, from 1950 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church, and a member of the Marshall Raughton Sunday School Class. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents, James Littleton Johnston and Lizzy Mae Davis Johnston, two brothers, James Louis Johnston, Clarence Rosco Johnston; one sister, Lorene Johnston Sewell, a son, Hal March Johnston and a son-in-law, Andrew Devon Barber.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce R. Johnston, Albany, GA, a son, Lee Johnston, Jr. and his wife, Gayle, Leesburg, GA, two daughters, Shirley Tolbert and her husband, David, Fayetteville, GA and Pam Johnston, Woodstock, GA; two step-sons, Ken McDonald and his wife, Brenda, Macon, GA and Mike McDonald and his wife, Terry, Kissimmee, FL; two step-daughters, Vickie Boles and her husband, Howard, Vero Beach, FL and Sharon Pierce and her husband, Alan, Leesburg, GA; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Johnston, Leesburg, GA.

Survivors also include seventeen grandchildren, Lee Johnston, III, Natalie Bryant (Clayton), Jennifer Saarinen (Barry), Daniel Devon Barber (Carrie), Trevor Sellers, Ashley Sellers, Lindsey Sellers Flammia (Tom), Steven McDonald, (Nikki), Will McDonald, Nathan McDonald, Brandon Boles, Robert Boles (Karla), Taylor McDonald, Kyle McDonald, Alisha Powell (Brett), Johnathon Tolbert (Janet) and Melissa Bray (Mark); seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Bryant, Lauren Bryant, Nicholas Flammia, Molly Flammia, Wesley Powell, Elaina Boles, and Evelyn Bray.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral home.
