Lawrence C. ""Larry"" Hancock

Lawrence Charles (Larry) Hancock, Jr., 73, of Albany, Georgia, died Friday, October 17, 2014. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. Don Adams will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
Larry was a native and life time resident of Albany, Georgia, he was born September 20, 1941 to the late Lawrence C. and June McLeod Hancock. He graduated from Albany High School in 1960 and attended Georgia Southwestern College. Larry served in the United States Army and transferred and retired from the Georgia National Guard in 1983 with the rank of Major, after twenty-three years of faithful service. During his service in the Georgia National Guard, he served as the Captain of the State Pistol Team. He was employed with Engineering and Equipment Company for over twenty-five years and retired in 2010.
Larry was of the protestant faith and he was also a member of and Past Worshipful Master of Triangle Lodge # 708 F&AM. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Valley Of Albany. Larry was an avid sportsman and was a life member of the Flint Skeet and Trap Club and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Oleta Cooper Hancock of Albany, GA; a son, Lawrence Charles (Chad) Hancock, III and his wife, Laura Allison Hancock of Leesburg, GA; a daughter, Laura Hancock Demott and her husband, Chuck Alan Demott of Moultrie, GA; a brother, Edwin (Eddie) Phillip Hancock and his wife, Jean Hancock of Eatonton, GA; a sister, Candice (Candy) Hancock Bell and her husband, Paul Gaines Bell of Leesburg, GA; a brother-in-law, Melvyn Ray Cooper and his wife, Barbara Morris Cooper of Albany, GA; two granddaughters, Allison Grace Hancock and Emma Charles Hancock both of Leesburg, GA and a host of extended family and friends.
