Larry E. Smith, 73, of Albany, GA, passed away surrounded by his family on February 20, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Stanfill will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

A native of South Portland, ME, born to the late Thale and Edna Smith, Larry received his education in South Portland ME and joined the United States Army. Shortly after his Military service, he moved to Albany, GA in 1967 and was employed with Flint Industrial Service for thirty five years, where he was known as the "Rag Man".

Larry was a very generous person, contributed to many charitable organizations and was a member of Palmyra Road United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son Randy Evans Smith in 1994, a brother, Cary Smith and a sister, Merrilee Smith.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Mike Whitaker of Alabaster, AL and Christi and Scott Reynolds of Buford, GA, his siblings, Sandra Dixon of Farmington, ME, Sharon Pelletier of Peru, ME, John Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL, Bruce Smith of Wilton, ME and Dennis Smith of Reno, NV and five grandchildren, Amy Smith of Valdosta, GA, Grant Whitaker of Birmingham, AL, Kelsey Whitaker of Alabaster, AL and Blake Reynolds and Layson Reynolds both of Buford, GA. Mr. Smith was also survived by three Great-Grandchildren, Audrey and Evan Smith of Valdosta, GA and Jack Whitaker of Birmingham AL.
