Lamarr E. Parr, 79, of Albany, GA, died October 26, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor will officiate.
Mr. Parr grew up on a farm in Southwest Baker County, GA and after serving his country for four years in the United States Air Force, he attended Valdosta State University. He married his childhood sweetheart, Sue Ivey of Colquitt, GA and they along with their twin sons, settled in Albany, GA.
Mr. Parr was a real estate broker and developer and was a past President of the Albany, GA Board of Realtors and past president of the Area Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He served as an elected Dougherty County Commissioner, he was a past director on the Southwest Georgia Planning and Development Commission and was Chairman of the first Southwest Georgia Easter Seals Telethon. Mr. Parr was past chairman of several Chamber of Commerce Committees and Chairman of annual membership drives for the YMCA.
He served as a Director on the Boards of the AARC, Jaycees, Toastmasters, United Way and the American Legion. Mr. Parr was a member and past master of Triangle Lodge # 708 F&AM, a 32nd degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Hasan Shrine Center where he served as an ambassador. He was also a member of The Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Ivey Parr, his son Anthony E. (Tony) Parr, two grandchildren, Sydney Parr and Gavin Parr and a brother, Leon Gerald Parr and his wife, Patsy all of Albany, GA. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael C. Parr.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
