Lamar B. Cannon

Lamar B. Cannon, 88, of Albany, GA, died September 20, 2015 at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.

A native of Leesburg, GA, Mr. Cannon was born to the late James Bartow Cannon and Lois Smith Cannon. He graduated from Emory at Oxford and attended Auburn University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After college, Mr. Cannon joined the Merchant Marines and served as a Mariner during World War II.

Mr. Cannon was co-owner of Cannon Brothers Peanut Company in Leesburg, GA for forty years, he was a Realtor and was employed with Rain and Hail Crop Insurers until his retirement in 1998. He was a member and former Deacon of The First Baptist Church of Albany, GA and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of sixty six years, Ann F. Cannon of Albany, GA, three sons, Daniel L. Cannon of Smyrna, GA, J.M. (Mike) Cannon and his wife, Donna of Lee County, GA and Jeffery B. Cannon of Panacea, FL, a daughter, Candy Cannon Land and her husband, Keith of Albany, GA, a sister, Cathy Smith and her husband, Jerry of Smithville, GA, a sister-in-law, Gloria Lowery of Albany, GA, nine grandchildren, Jonathan L. Cannon of Athens, GA, Stephanie Corman and her husband, Shannon of Denver, CO, Christina Woods and her husband, Jeremy of Nashville, TN, Laura Verenakis and her husband, Jay of Panama City Beach, FL, Leslie Presley and her husband, Jason of Lee County, GA, Jenny Klement and her husband, Sam of Dothan, AL, Heather Harman and her husband, Mark of Chattanooga, TN, Bart Cannon and his wife, Jessica of Birmingham, AL and Matt Cannon of Albany, GA and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Mathews Funeral Home.
