Kirby Lewis Hicks, 87, of Dawson, GA passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Willson Hospice House. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Dawson Road Church of Christ. 2115 Dawson Rd. Albany, GA. Minister Faron Hamner will officiate.

Lewis was born in Luverne, AL on December 31, 1937. He moved from Crenshaw Co, AL to Terrell Co, GA in 1950. There he worked on the family farm and attended school. He graduated from Terrell Co High School in 1956. He went on to have a 34-year career with the GA Department of Transportation, retiring in 1989 as an Area Engineer. During this time, he also obtained the rank of Major in the Army National Guard Corps of Engineers with 24 years of service. Lewis was a member of the Dawson Road Church of Christ and a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter #354, in Dawson, where he mentored many teenagers through the Young Eagles program. He was an accomplished Airplane Pilot with several thousand hours of recreational flying. Lewis enjoyed riding around town every morning and afternoon engaging everyone he could in conversation. He enjoyed meeting with his coffee shop crew and hangar-flying at the local airport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby Lee Hicks, and Alma Lois Clements Hicks, his first wife, Elizabeth Strenth Hicks and infant daughter Lisa, a brother, Joseph Leon Hicks, and sister, Annie Jean Crain.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Alexander Hicks, Dawson, GA, sons, Alex Hicks (Renee), Sumter Co, GA, Kirby Laurence Hicks, Dawson, GA, grandchild, Jacob Alexander Hicks, NAS Fallon, NV, USN, brother, James Thomas Hicks, Tifton, GA and sister, Linda Rayburn, Leesburg, GA. Sister-in-Law Mary Hicks Scott (Wayne), Albany, GA.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at Dawson Road Church of Christ.
