June Hornsby Gurr

June Hornsby Gurr passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at Riverside Cemetery.

June was born May 8, 1939 to Nell Howard Hornsby and Eldridge Hornsby in Seminole County, GA. She married Billy Gurr on December 27, 1959. After Billy graduated pharmacy school she worked with him in the U-Save-It Pharmacy they owned until they sold it in 1979. June then was employed by the Dougherty County School System until her retirement in 1999. The couple resided in Albany until November, 2018, when they moved to Madison to be near their sons.

After Billy passed away in February, 2021, June decided to move into The Madison Assisted Living in downtown Madison where she enjoyed living for the last two years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Billy, and her siblings, Pay Hornsby Wurst, Amy Hornsby Studdard and Kenneth "Butch" Hornsby.

Survivors include her two sons, Don Gurr and wife Melinda of Madison, Neal Gurr and wife Patricia of Monroe, grandchildren, Ryan Barrett (Tanya), Kellen Wood (Jason), Patrik Williams, Stephannia Williams, Stephen Williams, Tiffany Warren, and nine great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity.
