Judy Burnham Scott

Judy Burnham Scott, 68, of Albany, Georgia, passed away on September 3, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia, in the presence of family after a nine-month battle with cancer.  

Born on September 16, 1955, Judy was the daughter of Hubert and Irene Burnham of Moultrie, Georgia. She graduated from Dougherty High School in 1973 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern University. 

Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Hubert F. Scott, Jr., affectionately known as Bubba; her daughter Kimberly Scott Paine and her husband James (Jim) Robert Paine, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister Deborah Lewis and her husband Robert Lewis of Leesburg, Georgia; her brother-in-law Tony Scott of Albany, Georgia, and six nieces and nephews: Robbie, Cindy, Michelle, Darrell, Jordan, and Gabe. She was preceded in death by her parents. 

In addition to her career, Judy and her sister ran a wedding floral business for a few years. Her passion for floral arranging remained a constant in her life, and she delighted in creating fresh cut floral arrangements for every party and holiday. After college, Judy worked for Procter & Gamble for over 15 years. Following the birth of her daughter, she transitioned to running a court reporting business, which she operated until her retirement in 2020. 

Judy was widely known for her homemade peanut brittle and pound cakes, which she lovingly prepared as sweet treats for family and friends. She enjoyed baking, camping, fishing, and spending time at the beach. She had a special talent for bringing joy through her playful teasing of loved ones. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany, Georgia. A memorial service will follow immediately at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will take place at New Elm Baptist Church Cemetery in Moultrie, Georgia, where Judy’s parents are also laid to rest.
