Joseph "Joe" David Sams

Joseph David Sams, 68, of Dawson, died Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. His memorial service will be held Friday, May 6, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Bronwood Baptist Church. Reverend Tommy McDonald will officiate.

Joe was the son of James Wesley “Bud” and Wynelle Sams of Canton, Georgia. He graduated from Cherokee County High School then received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia.

Soon after graduation, Joe moved to Dawson and began his career with Cargill. He stayed with the company throughout much of his career, including its partnership with Golden Peanut and Tree Nuts and now ADM. His most recent position was Buying Point Manager.

He enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, and attending church, among numerous other things. He was a kind and loving husband, as well as an amazing father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Sams.

Survivors include his daughter, Joeanna Sams Chastain (Daniel) and grandson, Daniel Chastain, Jr.; brother, Melvin Sams (Paulette); sister, Joan Brannon (Jerry), and precious pet Schnauzer, Emma.

The family will receive friends at the home of Bob and Rhonda Rainey, 1811 Cemetery Rd, Bronwood following the private inurnment service.
