Joseph Michael (Joey) Schmidt, Jr.

Joseph Michael (Joey) Schmidt, Jr. 56, of Lee Co., GA died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Evans and Mr. Buck Malphrus will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Born in Oceanside, CA, Mr. Schmidt had resided in Albany, GA since childhood and grew up in Albany, GA before moving to Lee Co., GA. He was a terminal attendant with NGL Energy Partners and Joey enjoyed playing guitar and listening to blues music. His heart was dedicated to working with Urban Missions and the "Dray line guys" who he considered all friends. He was lovingly known as "The Cigarette Man". He loved his family and was loved deeply by his family and friends. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Schmidt, Sr. and  grandparents, Joseph J. Schmidt, Catherine Schmidt, Harry L. Avery and Jeston A. Avery.,  

Survivors include his wife, Denise Coleman Schmidt, Lee Co., GA, two sons and their wives, Brandon Schmidt (Krysten), Albany, GA, William Schmidt (Maranda), Baker Co., GA, his mother, Connie Avery Schmidt, Albany, GA, a brother, Robert Schmidt, FL, two sisters, Maude Schmidt Hollo (Lou), AR, Rebecca Schmidt Meeks (Michael), Hahira, GA and six grandchildren, Isaiah, Payton, Abigail, Fallon, Kolton and Eva.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Mathews Funeral Home.
