Joseph (Joe) J. Blanton

Joseph (Joe) Jesse Blanton, 66, of Albany, GA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the age of 66.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Gillionville Baptist Church. Rev. Chad Ellis and Rev. Roy Cook will officiate.

Joe was born in Moultrie, GA on August 15, 1951 and was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College in 1973. He retired in December, 2016 after forty two years of civil service at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta and the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany. Joe was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed grilling out, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his boys and grandchildren.

Anyone who knew Joe, knew he was willing to stop what he was doing and lend a helping hand. He was a man who reflected our Lord Jesus with the heart of a servant. Joe was an active member at Gillionville Baptist Church and he, along with his wife, taught the Searcher’s class at their church. He was involved with various organizations throughout his life including the Red Cross, Kairos Prison Ministry, and the Gideon’s International. He and Debbie enjoyed working in the yard and hosting social events. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Alexander Blanton and Melrose Clack Blanton and a sister, Jane Blanton.

Joe is the husband of Deborah (Debbie) Haman Blanton and they shared twenty nine years of marriage together. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his five sons, Justin Blanton, Steven Blanton (Bethany), Austin Bowen, Cliff Bowen (Lauren), Clint Bowen (Jessica), and his ten grandchildren; Easton Blanton, Kenley Blanton, Layna Blanton, Ethan Bowen, Jace Bowen, Thomas Bowen, Henry Bowen, Baisley Grace Bowen, Brody Bowen and Barley Ann Bowen, a sister, Dale Blanton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at Gillionville Baptist Church.
