Johnny C. Newkirk, Jr.

Johnny C. Newkirk Jr., SMSgt (USAF Retired), 74, of Albany, GA passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Willson Hospice House.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Baptist Church in Baconton, GA.  Interment will follow in New Salem Missionary Baptist Church cemetery in Baconton, GA. with Military Honors.   Rev. Craig Moore will officiate.  Repast will follow at St. Mary’s Baptist Church.

Johnny was born in Baconton, GA, to the late Johnny C. Newkirk Sr. and Jerusha Peterson on May 27, 1944.  He graduated from Monroe High School in Albany and received an Associate Degree in Business from Maryland University.

He served his country for a total of 40 years in the US Air Force, Air National Guard and Federal Civil Service.

Survivors include his wife Meike A. Newkirk, one daughter Shirley A. "Muffet" Wingate, two grandchildren Jayson and Jordyn, ten siblings Rita (Mahdi), Jimmy, Oscar, John Henry "Yahya", Clovis (Raven), Sheila, Ola Mae, Kim, Eric (Judy), David (Teresa), two aunts Florida "Fluddie" Holt and Maggie Sherman, and a host of extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials in memory of Johnny C. Newkirk Jr. to the American Legion Post 30 2916 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31721.
