John B. Turner

John B. Turner, 78, of Leesburg, GA, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Lee County Health and Rehabilitation. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM at Sand Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Rupert, GA. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.

Born in Ellaville, GA, to the late John William and Ruth Elizabeth Cooper Turner, Mr. Turner graduated from Butler High School and lived in Rupert, GA before moving to Leesburg, GA in 1960. He served his country in the United States Army, then worked as a jailer at the Lee County Correctional Institute for twenty-two years before retiring in 1993. Mr. Turner was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Alton Turner, and a sister, Agnes Luckey.

Survivors include nieces, Lynn Wilkes and her husband, Duane of Leesburg, GA, Judy Houston and her husband, Mike of Perry, GA, a nephew, Buddy Turner and his wife, Jeannie of Leesburg, GA, and a number of other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Turner will lie in state at Mathews Funeral Home on Friday, September 9, 2016, no formal visitation will be held.
