John Dewitt Turner

John Dewitt Turner, 70, of Lee County, GA died June 18, 2018 at the Columbus Specialty Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cordray Methodist Church Cemetery.

John was born to the late William Dewitt Turner and Hazel Doris Turner on December 3, 1947 in Calhoun County, GA. He moved to Albany, GA in his teens and graduated from Dougherty High School in 1969. John served in the United States Army in Vietnam and was employed with Merck Chemical Company for thirty two years. He was a member of Light House Ministries, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2785 and served as President of the Merck, Flint River, Retiree’s/Alumni. He was preceded in death by his sibling, Bobby Turner, W.D. Turner, Lucille Bowman, Martha Turner, Anna Barbara Moore, James Turner and Beatrice Allen.

Survivors include his children, Tony (Stephanie) Turner and Wendy Turner , four grandchildren, Emily Turner, Kimberly Turner, Fallin Turner and Wyatt Turner all of Lee County, GA and his siblings, Betty (Edward) Sheffield of Edison, GA, Luke Turner of Morgan, GA, Louise (Roy) Roney of Edison, GA and Berthaline Schwartz of Washington State.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home.
