John C. (J.C.) Broadaway, Jr., of Lee Co., died Friday, January 23, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be Monday, January 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
A native of Pelham, GA born to the late John Charlie Broadaway, Sr. and Ira Owens Radford, Mr. Broadaway had resided in the Albany area since 1950. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Navy. Mr. Broadaway was employed with Coats and Clark Thread Mill in Pelham, GA and came to Albany, GA in 1950 to work on the construction of Turner Field Air Force Base. After the completion of the base, Mr. Broadaway was employed with the Roger Williams Construction Co. and after Mr. William's death he continued the business. It became known as John C. Broadaway Construction Company and he was a very successful custom home builder.
He served as an active deacon at Byne Memorial Baptist Church and on various leadership committees. He had the privilege of serving in their toddler department for over fifty years.
J.C. was instrumental in the moving of the church from the original location to the present location where he used his years of construction knowledge in helping build the present facility. Throughout his life he used his building experience in mission construction in Brazil, Germany, Panama, Alaska and Michigan. In addition he and Christine worked Disaster Relief as an outreach of Byne Church.
Loving the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared this love with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to garden and share what he grew with others. He taught his children to be free hearted and gave them a strong work ethic. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Broadaway and Calvin Broadaway, his step-father, Jessie Radford and his first wife Christine Broadaway of sixty eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Brunson Broadaway, a son, Tommy Broadaway and his wife, Sylvia of Albany, GA, a daughter, Nancy Perry and her husband, Jim of Sasser, GA., two sisters, Irma Laing, Thomasville, GA, Jo Ellen Cochran and her husband A.B., Prattville, AL, a step-son, Charles H. Brunson, Warner Robins, GA, a step-daughter, Sherri Brunson Andrews, Lee Co., GA, grandchildren, Drew Broadaway and his wife Amy Broadaway of Albany, GA, Josh Broadway and his wife Tina of Dothan, AL, Chad Perry and his wife Brooke of Forsyth, GA and Lauren Perry Collins and her husband Jeff of Peachtree City, GA, and two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Blake, Alex, Sam, Michaela Grace, Noah James and Madison Christine, Mabry Christine, seven step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and his care givers, Strawdie, Linda and Gloria.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Byne Memorial Baptist Church.
