Joanne Bryant Webb, 79, of Albany, GA, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Hurley and Rev. Hilton Gillespie will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Garden Cemetery.
Joanne was born in Buckhead, Morgan County, GA, on August 16, 1936. After graduating from Atlanta's Roosevelt High, she worked for Southern Bell until her marriage on Christmas Eve of 1956. Following her husband's discharge from the Navy, she was a housewife, first in Decatur until moving to Albany in 1968. In the early 1970's she went to work for Greene's Propane Gas as Office Manager and, after it was sold, she went to work for the same family at Ever-Glo Propane, with Secretary of the Corporation added to her duties of Office Manager. Joanne filled these roles faithfully until her retirement in February of 2011.
God and His work was always important to her. Joanne was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene from her arrival in Albany until her passing. She served in various capacities for the church including stints on the board, caring for children in the nursery, and held a position in the church office for fifty years. This last position resulted in the church honoring her with an award for faithful service. It was of course deeply surprising to her and very much appreciated. She also was involved with the Nazarene Women's Missionary Society in a range of roles, including treasurer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyman Jasper Bryant and Eula Mae Rogers Bryant, her step-mother, Sarah H. Bohler Bryant, and her sister and brother-in-law, Carol E. Eads and Don Eads.
Survivors include her husband Bill Webb, Albany, GA, one daughter, Marsha Ann Webb, Clarkston, GA, one son, Michael Webb, Albany GA, one brother, Barry Bryant (Marcia), Acworth, GA, and one sister, Wynette Bryant, Clarkston, GA.
Those desiring may make memorials to the Church of the Nazarene, 1411 Liberty Expressway SE, Albany, GA 31705, or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
