Joan Beall Malone Simpson, affectionately known as "Grand Joni" to her grandchildren, 73, of Albany, died peacefully Friday, May 5, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with two of her children and other loved ones at her side.
A life celebration reception will be held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at The Coach House, 1308 Dawson Rd., Albany, GA, 31707.
Born in Pensacola, Florida to the late Vera C. Beall and John S. Beall, Joni was a U.S. Navy child and moved with her family around the country until she graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1962. While at Sandy Springs High School, Joni was wildly popular and achieved many accolades including Outstanding Senior and was a talented cheerleader. She attended the University of Georgia, majored in business, pledged the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, and was a sweetheart of the ATO fraternity. While at the University of Georgia, Joni enhanced the collegiate experience of all her knew her with her infectious smile, beautiful hazel green eyes, and her impressive dancing skills to Elvis Presley and other popular artists of the time. After college, Joni moved to Albany in 1966 where she raised her three children until she moved to her dreamland, Destin, Florida in 1998. While in Albany, Joni was a member of the Junior League of Albany and later sold real estate for Hicks Realty, Walden & Kirkland, and Century 21. After moving to Destin, she sold real estate for Sotheby's and Blue Marlin Realty before her illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sidney Beall and Vera Ester Castleberry Beall.
Survivors include her children, Thomas William Malone, Jr., Adam Malone and Summer Lauren Simpson and grandchildren, Madeleine Berry Malone, Emilie Grace Malone, Rosser Adams Malone, Jr., Jadyn Elise Hansard and Kennedy Carter Malone and her sister, Lee Beall Sertich.
The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to Destiny Daniel and other caregivers at Morningside Senior Living and Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care provided throughout the final months of Joni's life.
