Jerry Wayne Shipley

Jerry Wayne Shipley, 59, of Albany, GA died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Matthew Nance will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Shipley was born in Albany, GA and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company until its closing and later employed with and retired from Frito Lay Corporation. He was a 1972 graduate of Albany High School, a former member of the Albany Jaycees, The Open Doors Sunday School Class and a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Shipley was preceded in death by his father, Billy Lee Shipley, Sr., paternal grandparents, Carl Hamilton Shipley and Thula Mae Shipley and his maternal grandparents, Luther and Dollie Wiggins.

Survivors include two sons, Shannon Wayne Shipley (Erin), Athens, GA, SSgt Nicholas Scott Shipley, Cherry Point, NC, a daughter, Christie Lynn Walter (Greg), Bridgeport, CT, mother, Geraldine (Gerry) Wiggins Shipley, two brothers, Billy Lee Shipley, Jr. (Sherry), Luke Shipley (Marie), a sister, Dollie Shipley Dollar (Mike) all of Albany, GA, a grandson, Nicholas James Shipley, a nephew, Geoffery Shipley (Angie), six nieces, Brooklyn Miller (Flynn), Jami LeAnn Moore (Justin), Savannah Dollar, Missy Smith (Michael), Kelly Draper (Brian) Ryann Revell (Mason), three great-nephews, a great-niece, an uncle, T.H. Wiggins, Pelham, GA, numerous cousins, his caregiver, Shirley Kegler and his dog Frisky.

The family will be at his mother's residence.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
