Jeannette Cutchens Elia went to be with the Lord Friday, April 15, 2016 at the age of seventy-one. She was born December 30, 1943 in Albany, GA. For over fifty years, Jeannette battled Muscular Sclerosis. She fought her battle bravely and courageously, never giving up until a few days ago. Some of those who worked at Phoebe Hospital may remember the "little Telemetry Tech" who rode her scooter through the hospital halls, always ready to talk about her children, her therapy dog Casey, and her birds, especially Kermit, who, she would assure you, could carry on a conversation.
Jeannette was very independent, never wanting a "hand out" but a "hand up," and many were called on from time to time to come to her rescue. The family would like to thank all those who have helped make it possible for Jeannette to have her desire to remain at home rather than go to assisted living.
Jeannette loved animals and was a faithful contributor to the Humane Society. She was active in Pause Patrol until she and her dog Casey were no longer physically able to continue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Richard Cutchens and Bessie Lovette Cutchens, and her brother, Jimmy Louis Cutchens.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Denice Elia of Boca Raton, FL, her daughter, Jeanne Marie Elia of San Diego, CA, two grandsons, Shaun and Steven Elia of Boca Raton, FL, a sister and brother-in-law, Larry and Diana Cutchens of Leesburg, GA, five nephews, Paul and Michael Cutchens of Leesburg, GA and John Cutchens of Hampton, GA, and Eric and David Daughtry of Leesburg, GA, two nieces, or Patti Daughtry McEwen of Jackson, GA, and Paige Daughtry Greene of Americus, GA, and nine great-nieces and two great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dougherty County, Lee County or Worth County Humane Society.
Visitation will be held at Albany Bible Church, Sunday, April 17th at 2:00 .M.
