Jean Garcia, 90, of Albany, GA, passed away Monday, January 9th, after a five year struggle with Alzheimer's. At the time of her death, she was at home with her devoted daughter, Anita, at her bedside. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, January 13, 2016 at 10:00 am, at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
Jean was born May 9, 1926 in Lancashire, England to James and Rachael Cotham. She was a war-bride and came to live in the states at nineteen years old. She worked as a sales clerk downtown, and as a divorced mom raised three children independently. Fishing and knitting were her hobbies. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen G. Derrick and a son Michael J. Garcia.
Survivors include her daughter Anita Garcia and granddaughter Pam Ahern Garcia. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen G. Derrick and her son Michael J. Garcia.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials to Alzheimer's Outreach Center Time Out Program, 314 N. Jefferson St, Albany, GA 31701.
