Jay Bradley McGee, 35, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015.
Mr. McGee was born in Albany, GA, the son of Betty Jane Wilson McGee and Jay Barry McGee. He was an Auxiliary Operator in the nuclear power industry with Duke Energy.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Stephanie Navarro, sons James Connor "JC" McGee and Seamus Paul McGee, both of Florence; brother Jared (Susie) McGee of Albany, GA, and daughters Ashlynn and Madelynn; and sister Crystal (Eddie) Goff of Albany, GA, and sons Tyler and Logan.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served for 12 years in the submarine community achieving the rank of First Class Petty Officer. His duty assignments included Trident Refit Facility, Kings Bay, GA; USS MONTPELIER (SSN-765), Norfolk, VA. ; USS LOUISIANA (SSBN-743), King's Bay, GA, and Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, SC. Awards included the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Mr. McGee attributed his time in the U.S. Navy, and his father, to forming him into the man he became. At his boot camp graduation, Mr. McGee thanked his father, the senior McGee, for the values his dad instilled in him while growing up
.
Mr. McGee said that his heart was big enough for the people that fit in it. Beyond his family, his heart held friends from his childhood in Georgia and his time in Florence, SC. He also cherished the friends for life he made through his Navy travels, including his best friend Onyx Danois, "Uncle Onyx" to his sons. Mr. McGee's most proud achievement in life was being a loving father to his two wonderful boys.
Family will receive friends at a visitation on Tues., May 19, 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 22, at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Mr. McGee would share with people a quote from his favorite childhood movie, The Jungle Book: "Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities. Forget about your worries and your strife."
