Janice Bessie Baker Bates, of Albany, and formerly of Andalusia, AL, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 at Wynfield Park and Rehabilitation. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a later date.
Mrs. Bates was born on July 21, 1937 in Andalusia, AL to the late F.W. Baker and Clodine Worley Baker. She lived in Atlanta for 20 years before returning back home to Alabama before moving to Albany to be near her daughter and granddaughter. Mrs. Bates happily known as Mema was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many
Mrs. Bates is survived by her daughter, Becky Carden (Nick) of Leesburg; her granddaughter, Angie Alexander Morey (Jeremy), a great-granddaughter, Madden Morey; sisters, Dot Gomillion, Pat Parrish, Shelia Gray and Cindy Garrett; a sister-in-law, Betty King along with a host of loved nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Bates and a grandson, Martin Alexander.
