Jane Ivey Meinders, 87 of Albany, GA, died July 30, 2014 at Wilson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Daniel Ivey will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens in Albany, GA.

Born, Laura Jane Barefoot, January 12, 1927 in Whiteville, NC. She was the only daughter of Smithie Batten and James Barefoot. She had 4 brothers George, Willie, Frank (all deceased) of Whiteville and Vance Barefoot of now in Satellite Beach, Fl. She is survived by a son Steve Ivey (Susan) from Albany now in Oakland, Fl and a daughter Leah Glow (Larry) of Albany. She has 4 grandsons, Randall Ivey of Canton, Ga. Rev. Daniel Ivey of Orlando, FL, Brandon Glow of Albany, and David Glow of Albany, GA. She had 4 great grandchildren.

After graduation from Hallsboro High she was an operator for AT&T in Wilmington, NC during WWII. She met and married a returning sailor, J.C. Ivey who brought her to Albany to meet his family where she continued as a Bell operator for 10 years. She was instrumental in opening Livestock Veterinary Supply Co and later Ivey's Frontier Shop on South Slappey. Both are now currently known as Ivey's on Westover and operated by her daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Larry Glow. A talented vocalist, she was President of the Albany Women's chorus for many years. She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she taught a young married ladies bible class for over 15 years, calling the attendees "her girl's." Deeply involved in the youth program she participated in more than 20 youth mission trips. She was a featured soloist in the adult choir. Music being a big part of life she sang for dozens of weddings and funerals around Albany. She and J.C. were married for 32 years before his passing in 1979. She enjoyed watching the many horses being born on their property on Gillionville road where an elementary school sits today. She later married Milledge Meinders of Dawson and enjoyed traveling with him until his death. She resided at Seasons for 10 years and was recently at Morningside.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Byne Memorial Baptist Church.
