James Randall "Randy" Simpson, 67, of Albany, GA (Lee Co.) passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital after a hard battle of what we believe was pancreatic or colon cancer. His memorial service will be held August 10, 2024 at 11:00 am from Mathews Funeral Home.
Randy was born and raised in Albany, GA where he met his wonderful wife, whom he married in 1985. They shared 39 years together before he was called Home. Randy worked for the Marine Corps Logistics Base as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic until, in 2015, a health issue caused him to not be able to do what he loved any longer. He made many good friends during his career there and loved his job.
Randy was an avid nature lover, and especially enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard. Once retired, he was almost always outside working on pulling weeds, mowing, planting, watering, you name it. Recently he even asked Anna and Heather to plant white lantana flowers around his rose bushes to look like a bouquet for his wife, Lisa. He wanted her to have a reminder of him when he couldn't give her flowers any longer. He made sure to always take care of the birds and other animals that would come to visit the yard, and not a day went by without bird food being tossed out as well. He also was a fan of classic cars and classic rock. He would constantly reminisce about his favorite car he owned, a black '68 Chevy Chevelle, that he would cruise around in while playing rock music. You could tell he thoroughly enjoyed how he spent his time back in the day. His favorite place away from home was the beach, especially when the whole family could go together and enjoy the peace that it brought.
Randy loved to take care of his girls and raised two good "daddy's girls". He was a stubborn but protective husband, father, and pop-pop who always made sure his family was secure.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, James Tilton Simpson and Christine Melvin Kirkland.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Russell Simpson, Albany, GA (Lee Co.), daughters, Heather Taliaferro, (Gregg), Peachtree City, GA, Anna Simpson, Albany, GA (Lee Co.) and two grandchildren, Lily Taliaferro and Hank Taliaferro. He is also survived by numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends and family Saturday, after the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
Those desiring may make memorials in memory of James Randall "Randy" Simpson to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD, 21741.
