James Merritt

James Allen Merritt, 76, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, November 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce English will officiate.

Born in Doerun, GA, Mr. Merritt had served in the Army Reserves and was a retired mechanical superintendent and was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Gibson Merritt and Carrie Jo McCarty Merritt, two brothers, Wayne Merritt and Ronnie Merritt.

Survivors include four sons, Anthony Scott Merritt, Albany, GA, Judd Merritt (Melissa), Sylvester, GA, John E. Merritt, Hot Springs, AR and James Michael Merritt (Tina Marie), Sylvester, GA, two daughters, Jennie Merritt Hardy, Tallahassee, FL, Julie E. Merritt, Crawfordville, FL, two sisters, Linda Merritt Griffin (Lemuel) and Peggy Merritt Eledge (Hugh) all of Albany, GA and ten grandchildren, Heather, Brandon, Ross, Gracie, Joseph, Johnny, Tori, A.J., Kristen, and Chase.

The family will receive friends following the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
