James R. "Jamie" Layfield, 52, of Albany, GA, died April 30, 2017 in Glasgow, KY. Funeral services will be held Friday at 4:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Knight will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Albany, GA, born to the late Robert D. Layfield, Jr and Irma Nell Layfield, Jamie and his family moved to Conyers, GA when he was twelve. He graduated from Rockdale County High School where he excelled in baseball on the High School team. Jamie was a gifted and admired Catcher and was offered numerous scholarships to different colleges including Florida State University. After returning to Albany, GA, Jamie was employed with Griffin Truck Lines Bridgestone-Firestone as a Truck Driver and was currently employed with D & D Wood Preserving for the last nine years. He was a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Tamara Layfield, his children, Travis Myles Layfield and Adrienne Nicole Layfield, a sister, April Moore and a granddaughter, Rylie Brooke Childers all of Albany, GA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home.
