James "Jimmy" Edward Coxwell, Sr.

James "Jimmy" Edward Coxwell, Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 94, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Dawson, GA. Rev. Arthur Long will officiate. 

Jimmy was born on May 23, 1930, in Bronwood, Georgia, to the late Henry Edward and Bertha Herrington Coxwell. He lived a life filled with love and joy, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many. 

Mr. Coxwell at the age of eighteen joined the United States Army, and served six years during the Korean War Conflict and received three Purple Hearts having been wounded in combat. He received an honorable discharge as a Private First Class. He had many trades; He worked for Oxford Construction Company and is a retired Farmer. He also had his own semi-truck and hauled for Birdsong Peanuts. Mr. Jimmy married Myrtle Stokes Coxwell and they enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage before her death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four brothers, Robert "Bobby" Coxwell, William 'Billy" Coxwell, Joe Coxwell, Charles "Danny" Coxwell. 

He is survived by his children: James "Eddie" Edward Coxwell, Jr., Lynette Hagan (Dan), Ronnie Coxwell (Stacey), and Mark Coxwell. Grandchildren, James Matthew Coxwell, Allison Maria Coxwell, Stacey Hagan, Danny Hagan, Jr., Robert Hagan, Joshua Coxwell, Leeland Coxwell, Brittnee Coxwell, and Hannah Coxwell, three great-grandchildren, his siblings, Wesley Coxwell, Jennette Long, Jackie Lee Coxwell, and Mary McPherson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Mathews Funeral Home.
