James Howard Cason

James Howard Cason, (1st. Lt., USMC, Ret), 85, of Albany, GA died February 3, 2017 at Phoebe North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Barnhardt and Rev. Melvin Slappey will officiate. Interment will follow in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Adel, GA with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

A native of Adel, GA, Mr. Cason was born to the late Bill and Edith Cason and graduated from Cook County High School. During his teen years he helped manage the Rio Drive-In Theatre in Adel, GA. After High School, he received his military draft notice, but did not open it, he voluntarily signed up to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Cason served twenty one years including two tours of duty in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm.

Mr. Cason was stationed in Albany, GA in 1954 through 1955. After being stationed in Albany the second time, he chosen Albany as his final duty station in 1968. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1971. He was then employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base for twenty years where he was a Department Head with the Shops Branch. Mr. Cason was a member of the American Legion Post # 30.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Jenny Cason of Lee County, GA and two grandsons, James (Brittany) Cason of Cairo, GA and Caleb Walls of Lee County, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Laquetta Cason and by his brother, Raymond Cason.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home.
