James (Jim) W. Barnhill

James W. (Jim) Barnhill, 76, of Albany, GA, died September 20, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Pine Bluff Baptist Church. Pastor Bruce Smith, Pastor Keith Smith and Pastor Mark Bullock will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

A native of Milton, FL, born to the late George Edward and Mamie Belle Barnhill, He had lived in Albany, GA since 1957 and composed poetry for many years. Mr. Barnhill served in the United State Marine Corps and retired from the United States Army.

He was a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church, the Light Keepers Sunday School Class and the American Legion Post # 30. Mr. Barnhill was preceded in death by a son, James W. (Jimmy) Barnhill, Jr. and a great-grandchild, Clayton Griffin.

Survivors include his wife of fifty seven years, Laverne A. Barnhill of Albany, GA, two daughters, Debbie Griffin and her husband, David of Albany, GA and Donna Griffin and her husband, Terry of Worth County, GA, a son, David C. "DC" Barnhill and his wife, Teresa of Albany, GA, a daughter-in-law, Rena Barnhill Brewer and her husband Dan of Albany, GA, his grandchildren, Jennifer (David B.) Griffin of Leesburg, GA, Melissa (Marc) High of Camilla, GA, Sherry Salter and Tracie Hobbs of Leesburg, GA and Dennis (Betsy) Griffin of Sylvester, GA, Ti (Beth) Barnhill of Albany, GA, Haley (Jason) Mims of Leesburg, GA and David Barnhill of Albany, GA, two step-grandchildren, Angela Anderson of Thailand and Nick Anderson of Albany, GA, his great-grandchildren, Baylee Salter, Dylan Griffin, Anabel Griffin, Haden High, Maliri High, Julia Barnhill, Lily Barnhill, Colt Griffin, Luke Mims, Reese Mims and Katie Hobbs.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at Mathews Funeral Home.
