Jack Clinton Maddox

100 year old WWII veteran passes. Jack Clinton Maddox, born April 18, 1919, in Mystic, GA to Rolfe Hunt Maddox and Sara Riggins Maddox, passed peacefully at home on Monday, May 27, 2019 surrounded by his children. He was one of eight siblings.

During WWII he served in the 8th Army Airforce, 56th Fighter Group, 62nd Fighter Squadron based in England as a crew chief on the aircraft, the P-47 Thunderbolt, being his favorite. Participating in the Normandy invasion, he felt fortunate to have never lost a pilot.

Upon honorable discharge he began civilian life in Albany. Starting out in the construction industry, he was among those who helped grow the city during the 1950’s and 60’s.

In 1973 he formed a plumbing contracting firm in partnership with his son, working with several local builders and continued to visit jobsites well into his 80’s.

Deep sea fishing with friends and family was a joy. Up until the last days he kept current on the Braves, Falcons, politics, financial markets, and world events.

Being a devout Seventh Day Adventist, he looked forward to the second coming of Christ and the much anticipated reunion with his beloved late wife of 74 years Sarah Norma Maddox, who passed in 2016.

Survivors include three children Dennis (Gina) Maddox of Leesburg, GA, Barbara Maddox of N. Miami Beach, FL, Jacquelyn Herron of Canton, GA, a sister Christine Farris of Hartwell, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 3, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Waters will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.
