HERBERT JULE WALLACE, life-long resident of Albany, passed away on January 5 of a heart attack at the age of 62. He is now making his residence in heaven for eternity with his Savior, Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held at Byne Memorial Baptist Church, 2832 Ledo Road, 31707, on Friday, January 22 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be from 11:30 til 12:00 and a meal will be served for family and invited friends following the memorial.
Herb was the youngest son of Mae Rose Wallace and Hugh S. Wallace, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Hobby of Sylvester, GA, and his parents. Family members surviving Herb are his brother, Hugh S. Wallace III and wife, Bonnie, of Wilmington, NC; sister, Sandra Dinkins and husband, Hart of Garland, TX; sister, Mary Carter of Albany, GA; and aunt, Murbes Shepherd of LaGrange, GA.
Many Albany residents and businesses were friends and like family to Herb. He spent a lot of pavement time around the city: walking, talking and greeting everyone with a big smile and a handshake often remarking, "how 'bout them Dawgs?" He loved sports and could have been a sports writer or announcer with proper training. He worked for many years at The Krystal on Slappey Drive. Later in life, after his mother's passing, Herb joined Albany Advocacy Resource Center and participated in numerous Mental Health Awareness activities. He loved his family at AARC and his family at Byne Memorial Baptist Church, especially his Sunday School class led by Bobby Adams.
