Howard S. Davis

Howard S. Davis, 90, of Albany, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his residence.  Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Danny Thomas and Dr. Irvin Hyman will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm at Mathews Funeral Home.

Born in Dorchester, VA, to the late Emmitt and Margarete Davis, Howard joined the United States Air Force after High School and served his country for 20 years.  The family moved to Albany, GA in 1959 and was stationed at Turner Air Force Base where he retired. After retiring from the Air Force in 1968 he then began working at Coats & Clarks where he retired again in 1988. 

Mr. Davis enjoyed reading his Bible which led him to teaching Sunday School at First Free Will Baptist Church of Albany for 30 years. He also enjoyed witnessing to others, gardening, working in his yard and spoiling his grandchildren.

 Survivors include his wife Ellen Davis, of 65 years of Albany, GA, two daughters Debra James and Janice Ward, both of Albany, GA, six grandchildren, Sean Western (Rhonda), Stephanie Shirah (Jason), Jason Ward (Marie), Patrick Ward, Alison Young (Kyle), and Lindsey James (Shefy), five great grandchildren Melina and Ellie Western, Kaden and Alexa Young, Alex Mattei and several nieces and nephews.
