Howard Burnette Cox, Jr.

Howard Burnette Cox, Jr., 84 of Albany, GA died Monday, February 12, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday February 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Philema Road Baptist Church. Rev. Aaron McCulley will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery with military honors. 

A native of Albany, GA Mr. Cox spent most of his life in the law enforcement industry. He served in the United States Air Force as a security officer. Mr. Cox continued to serve after his active-duty service time as an officer at the Albany Police Department, Naval Air Station Albany, and Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church where he sung in the choir. Mr. Cox currently attends Philema Road Baptist Church with his son. 

Mr. Cox enjoyed gardening, fishing, and bargain hunting at local yard sales and estate sales He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Most of all he enjoyed his weekly lunch on Wednesday with his son Derrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Louise Cox a sister, Betty Powell and two nephews, Brian Cox and Brad Cox. 

Survivors include his son, Derrick Cox (Holly Strickland), a grandson, Ryan Thomas Cox and a brother Bobby Cox (Beverly).  

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
